Our Story
Until the early 1970s, all marine, offshore and port related activities in Saudi Arabia were provided by expatriate companies. Pursuant to the Kingdom’s policy of self-sufficiency and programmed industrial expansion, great emphasis was laid on developing self expertise in port management, terminal operations and maritime activities.
With this objective in mind and with the vision and foresight of the Late Chairman of A.A. Turki Corporation, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ali Al-Turki, the Marine and Transportation Services (Saudia) Limited (MATSS) a joint venture company with Grey Mackenzie & Co. Ltd (Inchcape) U.K. was born and incorporated in 1976 to provide specialized technical services related to marine activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Over its initial two decades, MATSS successfully completed a large number of major projects, encompassing consultancy, management, and operation services for the following seaports in Saudi Arabia:

MATSS successfully acquired the necessary expertise and services to execute awarded contracts, including surface transportation, marine logistics, stevedoring, ship agency, chandelling, chartering, and other maritime activities.
As Ports Managers & Operators, ATCO's responsibilities included:
-
Comprehensive technical & administrative staffing.
-
Marine craft operation, maintenance & crewing.
-
Navigational Aids (NavAids) maintenance, replacements & operation from the Gulf of Aqaba to the Yemen border.
-
Port State & VTS operation.
-
Waterborne firefighting and environmental protection, including regulatory enforcement.
-
Hydrographic surveys for waterway maintenance and dredging.
In the mid-1980s, A.A. Turki Corporation established ATCO Ports Management & Marine Services Division to provide integrated marine services to seaports and the offshore energy industry in the Arabian Gulf. By 1993, MATSS's personnel, equipment, and projects were integrated into APMMS (ATCO Marine).
Over its 50-year history, ATCO Marine has executed prestigious port management contracts in nearly every port in the Kingdom. We also provide marine crewing, operating, and management services for diverse offshore support vessels and projects.
Currently, ATCO Marine owns, operates, crews, and maintains offshore service vessels in the Arabian Gulf. We hold manning and maintenance contracts with Saudi Aramco for tugboats and harbor service boats in the Red Sea ports of Jizan, Rabigh, and Duba Bulk Terminal.
ATCO Marine also provides qualified maintenance crews for major machinery overhauls and electronic repairs to offshore supply vessel operators in Saudi Arabia and to Dammam Drydock Operators.
